In a meeting chaired by Education Minister Rohit Thakur in Shimla, extensive discussions were held regarding changes and improvements to the textbooks for classes six to eight. The focus was on incorporating significant topics related to Himachal Pradesh’s geography, society, history, folk culture, economy, and politics into the curriculum for these grades.

Rohit Thakur stated that the textbooks will include engaging information and facts covering various aspects from the prehistoric era of Himachal to its formation. This will encompass local dialects, cuisines, freedom fighters, Kargil war heroes, challenges faced by the state, and its economy and politics. The finalization of this information is expected within a month to facilitate prompt publication. The revised textbooks will be utilized in schools starting from the 2027-28 academic session.

The Education Minister emphasized that familiarizing students with information and facts about Himachal Pradesh will stimulate analytical thinking and a deeper curiosity, which will also be beneficial for future competitive examinations. A committee has been established under the chairmanship of the Education Minister to oversee the changes and improvements in the curriculum for classes six to eight, with regular meetings being conducted. This committee includes representatives from the Education Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Education Board, and SCERT, along with assistant professors.
