Himachal News: CM Sukhu Announces MOUs for Kishau Project Soon in Prime Minister’s Presence

Significant progress has been made on the highly anticipated 422 megawatt capacity Kishau multipurpose hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the central government and partner states is expected to be signed soon in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before finalizing the MoU, the central government has sent its draft to the concerned states for suggestions and comments.

In this context, Chief Minister Sukhu chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday to conduct a detailed review of the MoU draft and provided necessary guidelines to the officials. The Chief Minister clarified that while the state government supports the implementation of the project, the protection of the rights and interests of the state’s people will remain the top priority.

He informed that consensus on the implementation of the Kishau project was reached in recent inter-state meetings. Under the new arrangement, the state will not have to make any financial investment in the project, while it will receive approximately ₹600 crores in revenue annually. The current government did not accept the previously proposed draft of the agreement and negotiated anew to protect the state’s interests. Conditions were established with the consent of all stakeholders to ensure that the long-term interests of Himachal are safeguarded.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister’s Principal Advisor Ram Subhag Singh, Additional Chief Secretary R.D. Najim, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, and Managing Director of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited Abid Hussain Sadiq. Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant participated virtually from New Delhi.
