SHIMLA: A tragic accident occurred in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district at around 7:15 am on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals and leaving 11 others injured. The incident involved a private bus that overturned and fell onto a lower road while traveling from Bairagarh to Chamba, near Chalunj Mor (curve) on the Bairagarh-Tissa road.
The Bairagarh-Tissa route, which spans 27 kilometers through the remote Churah Valley, is known for its narrow stretches and steep drop-offs, serving as a crucial access point to the high-altitude Sach Pass. At the time of the accident, it is estimated that around 20 to 25 passengers were aboard the bus.
All 11 injured passengers were transported to a hospital for treatment, with six of them referred to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Chamba for further care. A search and rescue team, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, home guards, and fire services, was dispatched to the accident site.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani stated that the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the mishap. Following the accident, chaos ensued at the site as rescue operations commenced. Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and injured individuals are pending.
